Following the successful completion of the first summer period of Job Clubs at Caritas Hellas’ Center for Social Integration and Employability at the Municipal Market of Kipseli in August 2019, these group job search laboratories continued during the autumn period, completing their second cycle on December 20, 2019.
These 9 workshops took place almost every Friday, for a period of four months, targeting a population of Greeks, asylum seekers, recognized refugees, and migrants in search of work.
During these meetings, Caritas Hellas’ Job Counselor outlined the processes to motivate the individual by analyzing himself / herself, the working environment and the support mechanisms available to him / her to identify the job he / she really wants and is able to get.
Participants shared their questions and concerns about working in Greece and assessed their skills with a view to seeking targeted jobs. They have thus attempted to develop strategies, both in the domain of research and in the development of new skills if a deficit has been identified.
Emphasizing on realistic expectations, the tools that one can use in job search were presented. Internet sites, such as Job Boards, and other related websites, using social media, online groups but also professionals, recruiting companies or employment agencies and of course personal networking. By accessing electronic media, participants were able to respond to interesting ads at the time and send their resumes online.
Also included in this round of workshops was a new information seminar on contracts and salaries in Greece conducted by Caritas Hellas’ financial advisor in collaboration with the job counsellor. Through this, participants were able to get acquainted with recruitment and dismissal procedures, the different types of contracts, and salary levels in key occupational categories.
On December 4th, we had the second chance to host a representative of Workathlon, a company operating through a recruitment platform in the hospitality / tourism industry. At this meeting, Mr. Aias Katsaros briefed on employment opportunities in these areas and the use of the Workathlon platform, giving further important tips on how to obtain such a post and how candidates are evaluated.
It was most valuable during these workshops that the participants had a great opportunity to start networking in these areas that provide important job opportunities in Greece and received a targeted direction for their next career step.
The seminar is part of the Program “Social and Economic Integration of Refugees and Immigrants in Athens” which focuses on the support and integration of refugees and immigrants into Greek society. The Program is implemented by Caritas Hellas and funded by Caritas Switzerland.
