On Tuesday, June 4th, at the Center for Social Integration and Employability of Caritas Hellas in Kipseli, was held the Job Counselling Laboratory for Mobilizing the Unemployed, aiming at empowering and developing the necessary skills of the participants to support their efforts to find work.
The purpose of the seminar was to inform the participants about the conditions of a professional interview and the reasons used by both employers and employees. Many clarifications have been given on how a candidate can give a good picture of this process, avoid mistakes and gain impressions.
The participants started the process by introducing themselves in pairs and continued by having each person introducing his pair to the team. In this way, the process of seeking a professional identity of individuals began and the importance of personal exposure and active listening as a skill, important issues for the successful outcome of an interview, emerged.
Questions that can be made by employers were then analyzed and specific techniques were applied so that participants could recognize and highlight their skills with examples of their professional life. Finally, the lift pitch technique was analyzed where each of the strengths and targets were determined by presenting themselves this way.
In this experiential workshop emphasis was put on the development of team spirit and mutual support, the cultivation of communication skills, active listening, self-presentation, but also the encouragement of a job and the determination of professional values and expectations.
The workshop was held in Greek in a group that has already joined a cooking vocational training program, run by Caritas Hellas.
The seminar is part of the Program “Social and Economic Integration of Refugees and Immigrants in Athens” concerning the support and integration of refugees and immigrants in Greek society. The Program is implemented by Caritas Hellas and is funded by Caritas Switzerland.
