On Wednesday, 05/06/2019, there was conducted another tour together with of the “Youth Empowerment Group-Discover Athens” of Caritas Hellas’ Social Spot at Neos Kosmos. This time 23 beneficiaries visited the Greek Parliament, and had tour guide by a professional, inside of the building.
They were in the “Eleftherios Venizelos” hall, which hosts an exhibition to honor a Greek hero of the rebellion against the Ottoman empire, named Rigas Feraios. Additionally, they admired the wall paintings inside the hall and the stairs of Queen Amalia, which are the only parts of the building that withstood the fire of 1909. Furthermore, during the tour guide they learned about the history of the building, the use of it as a palace of Greece and afterwards as a parliament and about the Greek constitution.
The participants ended up to the conference hall, where the replacement of the President of the parliament, welcomed the group and the members of the parliament gave a warm applause and at the end the beneficiaries have watched with excitement the ongoing conference.
The summer might have come, but the activities of Discover Athens are ongoing with a huge interest and participation.
The activity is part of the «METAVASIS Project – Participation, Empowerment and Social Inclusion of Refugees / Migrants in Greece» concerning the support and integration of refugees and immigrants in Greek society. The Project is run by Caritas Hellas and is funded by Caritas Germany.
