After two years of Theatrical Group at the Social Spot of Caritas Hellas in Neos Kosmos, which has concluded to two successful theatrical plays, the 3rd year of the theatrical group has started, with 22 young refugees from Iran and Afghanistan.
This year’s group welcomed new members and along with the old students, via the theatrical games, they discover new aspects of themselves which enhance their talent and their self-esteem. The weekly meetings of the group begin with relaxation and elocution exercises, theatrical and interactive games as well as many improvisations based on prior analysis of poems, songs, short stories and artistic creations.
The participants through the games and the movements of kinesiology the students learn to develop their personal characteristics, to express their feelings and let their imagination grow. Art and theater are used as means of evolving their social skills and integrate to the Greek society.
In the context of the weekly meetings on Saturday 23rd of November 2019, the Theatrical Group have visited the Onassis Stegi Foundation and participated in a 4-hour educational-empowering project which is inspired by a play of Nikos Karathanos and is based on the experienced director Yolanda Markopoulou. There, they encouraged improvisations through music, movement and dance and they carried out group activities and games which concluded to a public open performance.

*The Theatrical Group of Caritas Hellas in Neos Kosmos was created on November 2017 and it was consisted of young people from Afghanistan and Iran. The whole idea was inspired by the interpreter of Caritas Hellas, Chalil Alizada from Afghanistan who lives in Greece the past 12 years, has studied acting and is engaged with the theater the past 8 years. He has acted in many theatrical plays, movies and television shows of the Greek TV.
The theatrical group is part of the «METAVASIS Project – Participation, Empowerment and Social Inclusion of Refugees / Migrants in Greece» concerning the support and integration of refugees and immigrants in Greek society. The Project is run by Caritas Hellas and is funded by Caritas Germany.
