On Tuesday 5thof March, 26 students with their 2 teachers from Saint John’s University of New York, have visited the Social Spot and the Social House of Caritas Hellas in Neos Kosmos, with the project «Modern Greek and International Management».
To begin with, a presentation was conducted about the refugee crisis in Greece, the way it developed these years and the action that Caritas Hellas took related to that. Also, she presented the services that are provided and the activities that take place to the Social Spot. Furthermore, the photo exhibition “Athens my City” that was conducted the previous year with a great success, was presented by the beneficiaries of Caritas Hellas. They discussed with the students about their experience in Caritas photography seminar and an open dialogue followed about their stories and how they came to Greece.
Afterwards, Neos Kosmos Social House welcomed with great pleasure the student group of the Catholic Saint John’s College – New York.
The students had an induction moment in the project activities of Caritas Hellas in the district of Neos Kosmos, actively participating in interactive activities with the beneficiaries. Additionally, the students along with the refugee families hosted at the Social House as well as with the project team had the opportunity to have lunch on the premises.
That joint activity was a great bonding experience, encouraging positive interaction between people from different backgrounds, fostering warmth for our future joint initiatives.
Their day ended with a visit in Lycabettus hill, where the Photography group was united with “Discover Athens” group for a common photoshoot-tour guide. The students took photos with the beneficiaries and were guided while admiring in 360ᵒ Athens. They learned how the hill was created, based on an ancient Greek Mythology myth and they “looked down” the attractions of Athens.
“Thank you for the great day. It was full of emotions, intercultural dialogue and unforgettable experiences for the young people”.
