As a part of the Greek language lessons, the first week of October, the Social Spot of Caritas Hellas Neos Kosmos, carried out with great success, the Greek festival, with the view that the beneficiaries will get a better knowledge of the Greek culture. Aiming to support their integration into the Greek society.
During the festival there was a projection of two Greek movies of Finos Films, “Alice in the Navy” and “Mermaids and the tough men”. One day of the festival, was dedicated to the museums with a group of refugees who visited the “Bath of Winds” and the “Museum of Greek folk musical instruments”, where the teacher of Greek lessons, gave explanation about the exhibits in Greek language to her students emphasizing to the verbal communication.
Furthermore, there was a walk to Plaka area, Monastiraki and Thisio, admiring and discussing about the Greek history through the ages.
Moreover, there were cultural events with lesson of Greek bouzouki and traditional Greek dance, where the beneficiaries enjoyed greatly, discussions regarding Greek culture and the similarities with Middle East.
Finally, the refugees have tried traditional Greek tastes and beverages and they made the “farmer dolls”, which was made in Greek villages during seedtime for good luck.
The excursion is a part of the project «METAVASIS Project – Participation, Empowerment and Social Inclusion of Refugees / Migrants in Greece» concerning the support and integration of refugees and immigrants in Greek society. The Project is run by Caritas Hellas and is funded by Caritas Germany.
