The Center of Kypseli said STOP! to Violence against Women!

On Tuesday, the 27th of December, an Awareness-Raising Day concerning the Elimination of Violence against Women was conducted with big success in the Center for Social Integration and Employability of Caritas Hellas, in Kypseli. 30 women, 4 interpreters (Arabic, Farsi, French), 3 speakers and 1 director participated and the topics discussed were the discrimination and violence against women, the domestic violence, the violence at the workplace and the related legal framework.

The seminar started by the representation of the speakers to the audience. Then, the psychologist spoke about the different aspects and forms of violence against women focusing on the psychological abuse, the economical abuse, the physical abuse and the emotional one. Furthermore, the participants watched a spot with a case study and they were asked  to decide which of the violence forms presented to them before, they could observe in the short film.

Later on, the job counselor spoke about violence at the workplace. The presentations included the forms of violence that can take place in the workplace, in the aim of analyzing at the same time the means of prevention and confrontation of this phenomenon at work. More specifically, she introduced the participant women in the phenomenon of “mobbing” in the workplace, the behaviors that shape it and how it can be dealt with. She also talked about sexual harassment, how we recognize it, how we distinguish it from moral harassment and how these two types of violence affect the victim. A general idea of the most common profile of the offenders was also provided. Moreover, the consequences of moral and sexual harassment on the psychosomatic health of victims were analyzed, through case studies and video-spots.

Finally, the participants were informed by the lawyer of the Organization about the actions they can take to protect themselves and about the actors to which they can report an incident, strictly, following the rules of confidentiality and ask for further help with their cases.

In the context of the seminar, there was a discussion about the solutions of this social problem of violence and abuse and photocopies of all the organizations that support women in need were shared. Then, a short length movie was projected called, “touch me”, directed by G. Triantafillou. The director,  spoke to the women about his personal experience and some women shared their stories. The participants played games and at the end, they ended up in a big hugging circle. At the conclusion some small handcrafts were created with a main meaning “We say Stop to violence” // “no woman is alone”.
